District History
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Euroa and all First Peoples living and working on this land. We celebrate the history and contemporary creativity of the world's oldest living culture and pay respect to Elders - past, present and future.

The name 'Euroa' originated from the Aboriginal name 'Yerao', meaning joyful, and is situated on Tangurung Country.

Euroa is a thriving town half-way between Albury and Melbourne, just off the Hume Freeway. It is readily accessible to Melbourne only 151 km, by rail or road.

Euroa is situated on the banks of the Seven Creeks in the Shire of Strathbogie. It is the centre of a large agricultural and grazing district. The town is well laid out with a range of vibrant businesses. The 2021 estimated population of the town was 4,281, and the Shire was 11,167.

Nature has been wonderfully kind to this Shire. The land generally is of a rich quality, producing abundant cereal crops and grazing grasses for fattening.

The wool grown in the district is well known for its quality and cleanliness.

In more recent years, the Shire has become well known for the thoroughbred horse industry and having the unique distinction of having three Victoria Cross recipients.
